Samaritan House is a private non-profit organization providing services to help meet the essential daily needs of over 12,000 low-income people within San Mateo County, California. We provide an interim "safety net" for individuals and families in need while ultimately helping them move toward self sufficiency.

With the help of over 2,000 volunteers, we provide food, clothing, shelter, health care, worker resources, and counseling services all free of charge to our clients. Samaritan House is a community-supported organization with over 70% of our operating budget coming from private groups and individuals. Please read more about us, our programs, and success stories.

The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund provides advocacy, education, information and financial assistance for the uninsured needs of families caring for terminally, critically and chronically ill, seriously disabled or severely injured children.

By working directly with healthcare professionals social workers, case managers, nurses and therapists throughout PA, NJ and DE, patients and their families needs are made known to the Fund through a simple application process.  Requests for assistance are generally handled within 24 to 72 hours in the form of payments to creditors for bills or the donation of goods. This simple method of operation assures eligibility for assistance and avoids the misappropriation of funds.

The Christmas Unlimited method of distributing gifts is what sets it apart from other holiday programs.  The process includes the following elements:

• Applications for assistance are distributed by over sixty community service agencies in El Paso and Teller counties
• Clients select a day and time they can be at the Distribution Center
• An Invitation is sent to each family confirming their shopping appointment
• We ask clients to not bring their children to the Distribution Center
• The Distribution Center is set-up like a retail store
  - Volunteers assume retail store jobs
  - Gift items have a price tag (although there is no charge)
  - Parents are issued a "shopping pass" giving them points to "spend" as they would   dollars
  - The total number of points is determined by the number of children
  - At check-out clients receive a stuffed toy, a book, stocking stuffers, and other items  as 
    posted for each of the children  "

CHOICES: CHOICES is an advocacy program for victims of domestic violence, and they run a temporary shelter for those women and their children. Christmas is a difficult time for a mother to be in a domestic violence shelter with her children. 614-224-7200

USMC Toys for Tots:  According to a Columbus Dispatch article on Christmas Day, 2007, the Marines distributed 33,400 toys.  Marine Reserve Center, 7221 2nd St., Columbus 43217.

The United States Marine Corps helps operate a wonderful charity called Toys for Tots. With its connection to the Marines, you know the group is run with the highest level of integrity and organization. 

There is a chapter in  New Orleans and one on the suburban West Bank, across the river from New Orleans.

 The Wishing Well Foundation

 Many observers nationwide don't realize the charitable origins of Mardi Gras and the volunteer tradition in southern Louisiana.

The Wishing Well Foundation reflects that volunteer tradition. The group is based in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans. The organization helps make wishes come true for terminally ill children. By donating to this organization, you can provide a very special kind of Christmas present for a child in need.
